Emotions are life’s teachers, offering lessons – about ourselves, others, the world. Yet we’ve learned three [equally ineffective] responses: deny/avoid, control/fight, become/drama. Any of these denies the learning, leaving the emotions in control. A new way: Most emotions come from thoughts. (Anger comes from a thought – that someone “shouldn’t” have done/said as they did.) The path to emotional intelligence means getting to know your emotions, and thoughts that drive them. As you do, you learn to have emotions without becoming them.
